Profile:  John P. Flynn

jpfbiz4.jpg (10842 bytes)John Flynn is the founder and principal of Project Alchemy, based in Sydney, Australia, and the co-founder of The Project Managers Network, a project management training company.  He consults to corporations and their project teams on how to conduct projects and improve their project methodologies and runs regular public and in-house workshops on all aspects of IT and business projects for his associated company, Project Managers Network.

John is an active member of the Sydney Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI), and was on the Board of the Sydney Chapter from February 2000 to February 2008.  He was editor of the Chapter newsletter from 2000 until the end of 2005.  He was given the 2006 Distinguished Contribution Award by the Australian PMI Chapters at the annual Project Manager of the Year event in October 2006.

John is a professional management consultant with over 30 years' experience in the Information Technology industry at all levels, including over 10 years in senior country and regional management positions in Australia and the Asia Pacific region.  He is now based in Sydney, but has lived and worked for several years in Manila, Singapore and Palo Alto, California.

He has been involved in running projects and managing professional service companies for most of this period, with responsibilities for software implementation, software development and market research projects across multiple countries in the region.

He has a specialised interest in applying project management techniques to the development of new products or business strategies.  Over the past 14 years John has run major projects developing commercial software products for major corporations in the USA and Australia, including packages for investment management, environmental research, project management and electronic banking and payments.

As a consultant, John draws upon his wide experience in strategic consulting, market research and analysis, economic forecasting
, and his extensive experience dealing with major IT suppliers and distributors. He has wide experience in strategic consulting and technological market research.  He monitors IT industry trends, and has written numerous reports on market projections and technical trends in the industry for clients throughout the world. 

John conducts training in decision-making, business cases, Risk and Project Management for students across all disciplines, including in-house courses for charities, social workers, foreign aid programmes, government departments and commercial firms in Australia and Asia.  He has spoken at conferences in Sydney and New Zealand, and teaches at the postgraduate level at a major university.  John is also a frequent speaker in courses and seminars in the Far East and in China.  He also runs workshops on scheduling, cost management, risk, negotiations and project management for the international training company ESI International.
